NFC Tags: The Convenient Key To Smart Interaction

Jun 23, 2025

As a key technology in the Internet of Things (IoT) era, near-field communication (NFC) tags are quietly changing the way people interact with the digital world. Evolved from radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, these contactless chip modules use the 13.56MHz frequency band to transmit data within a 10cm range, transforming physical media into a gateway for intelligent interaction.

Technically, NFC tags consist of a coupled coil and a memory chip. They require no battery power and are activated by the electromagnetic field of a reader/writer. Based on storage capacity and functionality, they are categorized into series such as NTAG and MIFARE. The NTAG21x series supports 144 to 888 bytes of storage space, capable of storing data in various formats, including URLs, text, and contact information. Operating modes include read/write, peer-to-peer communication, and card emulation. They can function as passive information carriers or emulate smart cards for payment and access control.

In terms of application scenarios, NFC tags demonstrate strong adaptability. Smartphone users can quickly configure Wi-Fi connections, check in for meetings, or verify product authenticity with a simple tap of a tag. Retailers are implementing dynamic price adjustments through the deployment of smart price tags. Logistics uses tags to track the status of goods, and smart home devices rely on tags to preset scene modes. Especially during the epidemic prevention and control period, electronic passes equipped with NFC technology have significantly improved identity verification efficiency.

Compared to traditional QR codes, NFC tags offer greater security and greater ease of interaction. Their encrypted storage effectively prevents data tampering, their physical contact triggering method eliminates accidental touches, and their read speeds reach milliseconds. With the widespread adoption of 5G networks and the widespread coverage of smart devices, NFC tags will continue to expand their innovative applications in areas such as digital identity authentication and contactless payment, becoming a key cornerstone of the smart living ecosystem.
